BNY Mellon Enterprise Treasury Services to Encrypt Highly Confidential Client E-mails
As communicated to you in our November 2009 BNY Mellon Enterprise Treasury Services (BNY Mellon Enterprise) calendar, we will begin encrypting e-mail messages sent to our clients that contain highly confidential information. This information may include any non-public, sensitive data such as identification, account or social security numbers or other personal information. The new encrypted e-mail format, developed as part of our ongoing efforts to help protect important client information at all levels, will require recipients to complete a few simple steps in order to access the secured text.
BNY Mellon Enterprise encrypted e-mails will be sent through an internal, third-party secure e-mail application called ZipLip that uses an encryption protocol called Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). AES is a widely recognized standard issued by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) for securing transmitted data.
What to Look for
The first time you receive an encrypted e-mail from us, you will be prompted to open a link within the e-mail that will direct you to a secure site within BNY Mellon’s firewall. Before you can access your message, you must register on this site by creating a password (see sample registration page below).

Your selected password must contain at least 16 characters, including one number, one lowercase letter and one uppercase letter. Registrants will receive an e-mail confirming their ability to review BNY Mellon Enterprise encrypted e-mails. You need only register via this process once all subsequent encrypted e-mails sent from us can be read immediately by using your password.
Once accessed, the e-mail text can be reviewed and saved as usual. The recipient may securely reply to the message and may safely attach documents (e.g., Excel spreadsheets or PDFs). After replying, you will receive confirmation that your reply has been securely sent to BNY Mellon Enterprise. If you forward the encrypted e-mail message, only the original recipient may access the message (after the authentication process has been completed) by entering their password.
Our new e-mail encryption process is aimed at helping to ensure that BNY Mellon Enterprise continues to maintain the highest standards for keeping your highly confidential information secure. For more information about receiving or accessing a BNY Mellon Enterprise encrypted e-mail message, please contact the original sender of any secure e-mail you may receive or your BNY Mellon Enterprise Representative.
