G-20 Summit: BNY Mellon Activates Pittsburgh-area Contingency Plans
On September 24 and 25, U.S. President Barack Obama will host the Pittsburgh Summit (G-20) at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, near BNY Mellon's downtown Pittsburgh campus.
Business continuity plans for the company's Pittsburgh campus are in effect in anticipation of the Summit. We appreciate your patience during this period. However, our commitment to client service is met even during the most challenging external environments.
As a result of our comprehensive approach to business continuity and extensive pre-planning, we are confident in our efforts to mitigate significant disruption to client service.
Ultimately, our Pittsburgh campus continuity plans have been invoked to ensure the safety and security of our employees and property, as well as the continuity of service to our clients. These plans cover nearly 7,000 employees in three commercial office buildings, which comprise our downtown campus and represent every business line and shared service division.
Like many businesses in and around the city of Pittsburgh, the company anticipates that the event will have transportation and travel-related impacts. Rolling road closures, due to both the movements of the visiting delegations and public demonstrations or protest marches, are expected.
In anticipation of this event, we have opened multiple recovery sites. The sites are ready for immediate occupancy. In some cases, these facilities will be operational 24 hours a day to maintain maximum support for our clients.
Out of an abundance of caution and based on the unique needs of our businesses, many of our Pittsburgh-based employees will either be working from their designated contingency site or working from home. A limited number of employees will remain on the campus where additional safety protocols are in place.
Back-up recovery facilities located in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey are also on standby, if needed.
BNY Mellon's global continuity planning program is based on the best practices in the industry. Our top priority is the well being and safety of our employees, visitors and guests, and the continuity of our operations.
Information about BNY Mellon Treasury Services' business-specific plan of action for the timeframe surrounding the G-20:
- Working locations and staffing:
- Business critical employees will report to work as usual during the week of the G-20 Summit.
- Arrangements have also been made to enable our other staff members to work from our other locations outside of the city or to work from their homes.
- For services that do not require support directly from our Pittsburgh location, additional staff will be "on call" to work at our contingency sites, if needed.
- Business hours:
- We plan for our business hours to remain as usual during the Summit and will make necessary adjustments if our delivery schedule is atypical.
- Deliveries and pickups:
- The movements of the delegations into and around the city will likely cause transportation delays, disruptions and route changes and may also affect accessibility to and from our buildings and garages, including deliveries.
We anticipate that the disruption of flights coming into Pittsburgh and traffic restrictions around the city may disrupt our mail receipt patterns and the volume of incoming mail. Lighter deposits will likely occur due primarily to these factors. As a result, some deposits may be lighter than normal and certain deposits normally made on a current-day basis may be made for the next deposit day. - Our intention is to ask our vendors to make deliveries and pick up packages during periods when no formal protest activities are scheduled to occur.
- If we encounter any issues with outgoing packages, we will make an effort to transport them to an alternative drop off location as soon as possible.
- We do not intend to redirect incoming Lockbox payments to another of our sites because the time savings from doing so would be insignificant or non-existent. With our plans to staff our operations and continue receiving mail, we are confident that we will be able to get work processed.
- Client Support and Communications:
- Client Support staff will be available as usual if you have any questions.
- Should any issues arise that would impact our ability to process your work in a timely manner, we will inform you via our established communication mechanisms, such as FirstAlert.
