Mellon Financial Corporation to Release Third-Quarter 2005 Earnings on Tuesday, October 18
—Conference call to be hosted by Chairman, Senior Vice Chairman and CFO—

PITTSBURGH, September 30, 2005 — Martin G. McGuinn, chairman and chief executive officer; Steven G. Elliott, senior vice chairman; and Michael A. Bryson, chief financial officer, will host a conference call and simultaneous webcast at 2:30 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 following the release of Mellon Financial Corporation's third quarter 2005 financial results at approximately noon that day.
