Mellon Software Engineering Teams Successfully Complete SW-CMM® (Capability Maturity Model® for Software) Level 3 Reappraisals
Level 3 reappraisals underscore Mellon's continuing commitment to IT excellence
PITTSBURGH, November 2, 2005 Two of Mellon Financial Corporation's software engineering teams have renewed their SW-CMM® (Capability Maturity Model® for Software) Level 3 appraisals. Mellon operations supported by the two teams include global cash management, foreign exchange, wholesale markets trading, trust & custody, and middle- and back-office management solutions for investment managers. Accomplished using the current CMM® for Software model with a new, more rigorous Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI®) appraisal method, these Level 3 appraisal renewals position Mellon to move to the new process model, the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®).
"Mellon's willingness to use the new appraisal method, which subjects its software engineering team to intense, detailed scrutiny, reflects a commitment to maintaining a high level of best practices and continuous software process improvement," said Software Engineering Institute (SEI)-authorized lead external assessor Norman Hammock.
"Reappraisal at CMM® Level 3 using the SCAMPI® method demonstrates a continuing commitment to software engineering excellence," said Kevin Shearan, Mellon executive vice president and chief information officer. "Effective project management is critically important to our overall mission of helping Mellon's businesses achieve measurably superior performance. CMM has helped us institutionalize the best practices and application development disciplines that are key to successful project management."
