Jamie M. Ball, Legend of Securities Lending, Announces Retirement from ABN AMRO Mellon and the Industry on January 31 2006

LONDON, 12 December 2005 — Jamie M. Ball, Head of Capital Markets and Managing Director at ABN AMRO Mellon Global Securities Services B.V., has announced her retirement from ABN AMRO Mellon and the industry effective from January 31 2006.

With an MSc. in Economics from the University of London and a BA from Smith College, Ball launched her career via the traditional banking route with a management training programme at Crocker National Bank. In the early 1980s she worked with Marine Midland Bank, during which time the company was acquired by HSBC Banking Corporation and Ball gained a succession of rapid promotions, rising to the post of Executive Director of Capital Markets.

Appointed General Manager and Managing Director of the London branch of First Bank Systems Capital Markets Limited in 1989, she was responsible for 22 staff and a business that was focused on lending and credit administration, treasury and trade finance operation.

Ball's 15-year career in Mellon began in 1991, running the Treasury and Foreign Exchange. In 1992 she assumed full responsibility for all offshore International Securities Lending — today a Euros 680 billion business — and incorporated the additional International Lending when the merger took place with Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company in 1994.

Managing all non-US securities lending for both Fixed Income and Equities, Ball's tenure at Mellon led to her being appointed in 2003 as Managing Director and Head of Capital Markets for ABN AMRO Mellon. Her numerous successes with the European bank include a 30% year-on-year growth rate; the launch with Mellon Bank in 2001 of I-Bid, the industry's first proprietary internet-based auction tool used in the lending market; and the oversight of all Treasury and cash investment for over Euros 425 billion of client assets in custody.

Her public profile has included such honours as Membership Secretary and Treasurer of International Securities Lending Association (ISLA), representation of ISLA's interests on the Bank of England's Committee for Stock Borrowing and Lending (SBLC) and a Chair of the annual ISLA/RMA conference in Geneva.

Commenting on her retirement, Jamie M. Ball said, "I have spent 25 years in education, and 25 years in a great career, so I am now looking forward to the next 25 - and more, I hope! - to thoroughly enjoy all of my other interests. I also want to say how much I have enjoyed working with the very best in the securities lending industry; not least my colleague Rob Coxon, Head of International Securities Lending, and my team at ABN AMRO Mellon, as well as my Mellon securities lending colleagues, headed by Kathy Rulong, EVP.

"It has been a special pleasure of mine to have completed my career with ABN AMRO Mellon, having been a part of the managing board, and having inaugurated the capital markets team and its business. There is particular pleasure in having participated in such a dynamic and focused entity where your decisions have immediate impact and the business is not overshadowed in the context of a larger bank. ABN AMRO Mellon has the best combination of entrepreneurial spirit, resonant of a small organisation, combined with the empowering strength of two global parent banks."

Nadine Chakar, CEO of ABN AMRO Mellon, added, "Jamie has been a fantastic and very important senior member of our management team and organisation and instrumental to our success. Her establishment of our securities lending programme has achieved an impressive growth rate of 30% year-on-year since its launch, and she has a legacy that any top-ranking executive in the business would be honoured and proud to call their own. She is leaving our lending team in really great shape, spearheaded by Rob Coxon, our head of international securities lending. I am sorry to see Jamie retire and wish her very well, and of course I am delighted that she now has an opportunity to be fully engaged in her myriad external interests as a result of her retirement."
