Mellon Capital Awarded Currency Overlay Contract by London Borough of Brent Council

SAN FRANCISCO, January 12, 2006 — Mellon Financial Corporation announced today that its Mellon Capital Management Corporation subsidiary will manage a currency overlay investment strategy for the $264 million international portfolio of the London Borough of Brent Pension fund.

Mellon Capital specializes in global quantitative strategies. By implementing an active currency management strategy, Mellon Capital seeks to enhance the performance of the pension fund's investments by identifying and exploiting inefficiencies in the currency markets.

"During the past year, Mellon Capital has been awarded seven contracts exceeding $1 billion through Mellon Global Investments in Europe to manage currency or global tactical asset allocation (GTAA) strategies," said Charlie Jacklin, president and chief executive officer of Mellon Capital. "Overall, Mellon Capital achieved significant business growth globally, adding more than $5.5 billion in assets invested in alternative strategies through September 2005."
