Mellon Announces 15 Knedler Scholarship Winners
PITTSBURGH, February 6, 2006 Mellon Financial Corporation today announced 15 recipients of the George and Dorothy Knedler Scholarship for children of Pittsburgh-area Mellon employees. These awards, presented to current high school seniors, are based on academic records, demonstrated leadership abilities, honors received and work/volunteer experience, all qualities the Knedlers deemed key to advancement. The Knedlers were long-time Mellon employees with more than a half-century of combined service. George, who retired from Mellon in 1985 and passed away in 1993, was preceded in death by his wife. In his will, George designated the bulk of his estate for the creation of the scholarship program, which is administered through The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Knedler scholarships are determined and distributed by an external scholarship selection committee. Under the program, children of qualified Mellon employees living in Allegheny County are eligible to apply for this post-high school scholarship assistance.
The students below, all of whom plan to attend college in the fall, will receive a scholarship for four years. Also listed are their Mellon-employed parent and high school:
