Continuing Our Legacy of Excellence in Indexing

For over 40 years, we have built upon a solid history of providing institutional-quality index solutions to some of the world’s most sophisticated investors. Index management has certainly evolved since our founding in 1983. We are proud of our heritage, and we are equally committed to our ongoing evolution.

We celebrated Mellon’s 40th anniversary in 2023 by reflecting on our history and moving forward in our journey. The year included the launch of BNY Mellon’s direct indexing product and the first tokenized index fund sub-advised1 by Mellon. The firm also saw continued growth in the BNY Mellon index ETF line. These are exciting milestones that we achieved through our unwavering dedication to excellence in index investment management and our deep partnerships with our clients. As we move forward, we look to stay true to our core principles that have served us so well these last 40 years:

Mellon traces its roots back to the founding father of institutional index portfolios—William Fouse, who co-founded the company and created the vision for index investing that informs our deep perspective on the public markets.

Mellon has a tenured portfolio management team guided by decades of industry experience and dedicated to delivering tightly tracking investment results. Using a systematic, transparent and risk-controlled process, we seek to overcome the structural challenges of index investing for our clients. We believe passive investing requires an active mindset.

Our clients drive what we do, and we are passionate about harnessing the power of the capital markets on their behalf. Whether long-tenured or new to Mellon, we partner with all of our clients to deliver a range of indexing solutions—from the simple to the complex—that suit their needs. Mellon has stood the test of time through the dedicated efforts of our employees and the trust and loyalty of our long-standing clients.

We want to thank our clients for their continued trust in Mellon and we look forward to continuing our legacy as a global leader in index management and one of the world’s largest institutional index managers by assets under management.
